There were two major events this last week, both related to the Bible, which at first may not seem to be connected. Not only do we find out that they are related, but we also find some important lessons and warnings for us.

The leaders of Hamas, an organization which perpetrates terror attacks and the murder of Jews, were targeted in an attack in Qatar by the Israeli Air Force. It is not yet know whether they were killed or not. Qatar gave these terrorists sanctuary, where they lived in luxury, while positioning itself as a “mediator” between the terrorists and Israel.

The other major event was the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a conservative commentator, debater, author and media personality. He was a Christian and supported Israel.

An opinion piece in the Canadian National Post, explained the publications view that, "Carney Liberals again side with Israel's enemies, fail to protect Canadian Jews"

The piece contrasted Canada’s rapid and sharp condemnation of Israel’s targeting of Hamas terrorist leaders, while showing indifference to violence and harassment against Jewish Canadians. The summary said, "In 1939, Ottawa's policy towards the Jews was 'none is too many.' Now, it's one of sheer indifference”

The conclusion of the article: "Now, it’s one of sheer indifference towards violence perpetrated against Jewish-Canadians, and active hostility towards actions intended to protect the world’s only Jewish state.”

That Jewish people are legitimate targets for harassment and violence, while an attack upon the leaders of Hamas, is condemned immediately by Canada — and the world over — sends a message to the Jew haters that violence against the Jewish people is at least tolerated. This will only lead to more violence and harassment.

Hamas is a terrorist organization, that not only perpetrated the infamous October 7 terror attack but has sent deadly suicide bombers into Israeli buses, cafes, markets and restaurants for decades, murdering and maiming Jewish men, women and children. Currently Hamas has many Jewish hostages who have been despicably treated for nearly 2 years, and of course not treated in any way which would follow the Geneva conventions for the treatment of prisoners of war.

If any other terrorist organization had perpetrated an attack such as October 7 against any other nation, it would not be in the news every day as it defended itself, with every action weighed in the balances of legitimacy. In fact, the very fact that society obsesses over and debates every action of the Jewish state to defend its existence, usually condemning them, has at it’s root a hatred of the Jewish state and people. At the foundation of this is an idea, that the very existence of the Jewish state of Israel, is unjust — please remember, the regathered Jewish people are an act of the Almighty — it is He that brought them back from the four corners of the earth! Meanwhile the big accusations levelled against Israel have been proved to be lies. The genocide libel? A lie. The starvation story? A lie. The settler violence tale? A lie.

Why do the nations come to Armageddon against the Jewish development in the land? Because they believe a lie. Revelation 16 says:

"And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.”

Are the corrupting “frog spirits” that gather the nations to Armageddon telling the truth? The spirit of the age that comes out of the mouth of the false prophet? No! The words of the false prophet are false. The spirit that gathers the nations against God’s regathered people is a lie. There is a warning here for us to not be deceived. We live in an age of deception. We live in a world that wants to believe lies, but does not want to believe or hear truth. It is important for us to understand these events, to know what is really happening as best as we can, taking into account that this is an age of deception.

Here are some of the reactions of world leaders that rolled in, shortly after Israel attempted to wipe out the leadership of the vile terrorist organization Hamas in Qatar:

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney:

"Canada condemns Israel's strikes in Qatar — an intolerable expansion of violence and an affront to Qatar's sovereignty”

French President Macron:

"Today's Israeli strikes on Qatar are unacceptable, whatever the reason. I express my solidarity with Qatar and its Emir, Sheikh Tamim Al Thani. Under no circumstances should the war spread throughout the region.”

The Roman Catholic Pope:

“There is serious news right now — Israel attached Hamas leaders in Qatar. This is a very serious development."

Meanwhile, Israeli Primie Minister, Netanyahu, drew a parallel, between how America hunted down the terrorists of September 11 and how Israel hunted down the Hamas terror leaders in the country that harboured them, where they lived in luxury. He said,

"I say to Qatar and all nations who harbour terrorists, you either expel them or you bring them to justice. Because if you don't, we will."

The Assassination of Charlie Kirk

While it may not seem related to events in Israel, the assassination of Charlie Kirk is in fact related. To begin with Charlie Kirk was a supporter of Israel, we will see how the relationship goes deeper than this. Charlie was a man who was not afraid to speak what he believed to be the truth. The attack against him was an attack against a symbol of freedom of speech.

Charlie Kirk’s assassination is especially chilling to anyone who speaks publicly, from what I have read he was a supporter of many Christian beliefs, a supporter of Israel and conservative family values. He was murdered for his beliefs, for what he said. He was murdered simply because someone did not agree with his views.

Personally I was not a follower of Charlie Kirk and I’m sure that I would have different views, on the Bible and many other things. However, what I do admire is a man who was willing to speak and openly debate, in a civil manner, what he believed to be the truth. Whether his view was popular or not, he was willing to speak about it.

In the Bible there are many examples of people who were murdered for speaking the truth, principally the prophets and apostles. Jesus himself witnessed a good confession before Pilate and was sentenced to death as the “king of the Jews,” for speaking this truth. In 1 Timothy 6:13, the Apostle Paul wrote of, "Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession.”

That confession, is recorded in John’s gospel. John 18:37.

"Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice."

We now live in societies where there is a grave danger to the ability to be able to speak freely what one believes is the truth. The best way to protect the freedom of speech, is to speak freely. That is what Charlie Kirk did.

Many of the same people rejoicing in the death of Charlie Kirk are the same crowd supporting Hamas, the ones calling for the destruction of Israel. Just as some people believe that violence and even terrorism is acceptable against the Jewish people, some people believed that violence was justified in Charlie's case because they strongly disagreed with him, even though he was a non-violent person, who believed in dialogue and debate, not physical violence.

This parallel was drawn in an opinion piece by Henry Donovan, in the UK Telegraph entitled, "Germany’s reaction to Charlie Kirk’s killing was beyond disturbing”

The opinion piece in part read,

"The cold-blooded killing of campaigner Charlie Kirk on a university campus in Utah should have been a moment of shared grief for everyone. A young father who believed in and lived by a code of free speech and debate was gunned down in front of horrified students.

"As we know, the reaction of certain sections of the Left in Britain and America was appalling. If they offered sympathy it was heavily caveated and, by applying labels like “far-Right”, they appeared to suggest he had brought it on himself.

"Yet here in Germany, the response of the media class was even more disturbing. They seemed to revel in it. …"

"We see the same dynamic in other debates in Germany. In the Israel–Palestine conflict, large sections of Germany’s Left have chosen to align themselves with Islamist extremists. What unites them is not love of Palestinians but hatred of Israel and, more broadly, of the West and its moral compass itself. Jewish students in Berlin are now reporting that they feel unsafe on campus. Israeli restaurants are being boycotted. Demonstrations routinely feature calls for the destruction of Israel, while the police are left paralysed by politicians who fear being accused of racism if they intervene too firmly. …"

"The parallel is obvious. Just as Kirk’s murder is rationalised by citing his supposed sins, so too is open menace against Jews excused as the “unfortunate by-product” of “oppression”. The logic is the same: our values – free speech, the sanctity of life, Israel’s right to exist – apply only when the “right” side commits the violence. It is moral relativism dressed up as sophistication, and it is political poison."

The killing of Charlie Kirk is a call to speak the truth. The Gospel when spoken in it’s entirely is a witness to the world. The Gospel, called the hope of Israel, includes the good news of the restoration again of the kingdom to Israel. It teaches that this kingdom will become a mountain that will fill the whole earth. It teaches that the Jewish nation will be the head nation and not the tail. It teaches that the Lord Jesus Christ will return and be a just and righteous king, that will bring salvation and peace to Israel.

In Revelation 1, the Lord Jesus Christ is symbolized as a glorious man with a voice of a multitude — showing this is the perfected body of Christ. Out of his mouth proceeds a two edged sword. The sword of truth.

Hebrews 4:12 says, "For the word of God is quick (or living), and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Let us speak the truth of the gospel, the sword of truth and not allow it to be assassinated. Thanks for listening to Bible in the News, this has been David Billington with you. Come back next week to www.bibleinthenews.com
