Welcome back to Bible in the News after another roller-coaster week in the Brexit saga! We started the week with a Brexit deal looking like a distant dream for Boris Johnson, but early yesterday rumours began to surface that a deal had been reached between the two sides.

So why should we as Bible believers be so interested in the political wranglings of the Brexit process? Well, as has been explained numerous times here on Bible in the News, Britain must be separate from Europe at the time of Armageddon, and in a position where it opposes and objects to the actions of Europe with very strong language.

The context here being the prelude to Armageddon;

1Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?

So Tarshish, which can be shown to be an ancient Phoenician name for Britain, be there, leading a group of nations in this really scathing attack on this group of nations which includes the current European Union. Britain doesn’t just say “we don’t support your actions” as you would expect from an ally, Britain leads in this condemnation of their actions, accusing them of going to war as an act of plunder, that they act as a thief to take this great spoil to steal silver, gold and all types of goods. These are not the words of a ally, these are not the words of a nation that has a “special partnership” with the EU, these words are the word you would expect to hear from an adversary of the EU, a nation politically at odds with it.

But what it is very important to consider is that we see here the end point, we see here the situation at the time of Armageddon. When we look at the political situation today it can be very tempting to take the point we are at today, and expect to only ever go in the direction of what we know to be the end point. World events almost never only go in one direction, we may see them take two steps in the right direction followed by one step in the wrong direction, but we an always be sure that the situation in the world will arrive at the one described in prophecy, whichever route God chooses to take.

So as of Friday October 18th, we look to the potential final showdown of the Brexit process with a vote in the UK parliament on whether the new deal is to be accepted by the British side. The deal aims to make the Brexit process smooth, and to leave the UK and the EU with a good relationship going forward. And although we know from Ezekiel that the end point will not be a “close relationship”, if the deal is accepted Britain will have taken a massive step towards the situation found in Eze 38, but will still leave a few further steps for us to look out for before the time talked about in Ezekiel. However, it is also looking possible that this deal will be rejected as Theresa May’s was before it. Now if this happens it makes it again possible that Britain will leave without a deal, perhaps on October 31st. If this were to happen Britain would have left on bad terms with the EU, the EU demanding £39bn which Boris has vowed not to pay in such circumstances, arguments over the Irish border, fishing rights, etc. The idea of a “close and special partnership” talked about would be near impossible. In such circumstances we would be making an even greater leap towards the situation we expect to see at the time of the end, but we will have to wait and see.

Either way, we are seeing a major step towards Britain being ready for its role predestined many thousands of years ago. If this deal is accepted tomorrow it is certainly not a day for any Bible believer to feel downhearted as Britain will be on track to be the majority of the way towards the situation we expect to see, and God can continue his work in his own good time. On the other hand, if we see the deal rejected then we will have to continue watching and waiting to see how it all unfolds, but if we do end up seeing a “no-deal” Brexit, Britain will virtually at the exact situation we have expected to see for many years. Our eyes should then go to see God working with other nations in the world, we expect to see Russia become more powerful, especially in Europe, the coming together of the EU and Russia, the formation of a European Army, and look for peace in the land of Israel with Israel dwelling on the mountains of Israel.

So let us be ready always, remembering that our lord will come as a thief in the night. This was Paul Barnes with this week's Bible in the News - join us for another edition of Bible in the News next week!
