This is Paul Billington with another edition of the Bible in the News. Among the many events taking place this week--the resignation of Israel’s Military Chief of Staff, calls for the resignations of Israel’s Prime Minister Olmert--as well as his Minister of Defence, Peretz; there is clearly the sniff of change in the air. Germany’s Angela Merkel is looking for closer ties with Russia, while at the Vatican scandals and corruption have surfaced like scum. As we read in Revelation 17:4, she has a "golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication." She is "drunken with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus" (verse 6). And so revelations of her priesthood in Poland having been working closely with the old Communist regime there, and informing against citizens is just more evidence of her double standards. She will work with ANY political crook: German, Russian or Iranian.
The Vatican of course, opposed the war on Iraq that toppled Saddam Hussein--just as it now opposes any strike against Iran. And she uses her considerable influence in order to try and circumvent any move against this foe of Western civilisation and of Israel. Not that she always has it her own way--sometimes powers such as the United States and Britain respectfully disagree with the Vatican and do what they believe to be necessary anyway.
Will this happen in the case of Iran? There is certainly a military build-up taking place in the Middle East right now. President Bush has announced his "surge" strategy, intending to send over 20,000 more troops into Iraq. He has also sent in another aircraft carrier into the Gulf, and he is positioning a patriot missile battalion in the region. Is it possible that all this signals a forthcoming strike against Iran, as some commentators suggest?
Well, if that possibility is there, we can be sure that the Vatican, Europe and Russia will do everything possible to prevent such an attack. This, in effect, makes them allies of Iran--a situation that fits the line up of powers given to us in Ezekiel 38:1-6, about which we have commented in the past. Whether an attack takes place or not, the outcome is bound to solidify the line-up of powers that are seen in this and other prophecies.
As we speak, the US Congress is trying to bring in legislation that would prevent the Bush Administration from launching an attack on Iran. This is inspired by the Left-wing in US politics, and behind it there will be (as always) the influence and pressure of the Vatican, both through the media and Catholic political channels. It is these very forces who claim to be so opposed to military action now, who will be the great cheer-leaders for war against Israel and Armageddon in the near future. They are all anti-Zionists, and are symbolically represented by those “unclean spirits” referred to in Revelation 16:13,14. The words are:
"And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty."
If the present Left-wing Humanist regime that currently governs Israel should fall, and if it were to be replaced by a government more favourable to Religious Zionism and to maintaining control over the West Bank--we could expect the frog-like croaks of Europe and the False Prophet to rise to a crescendo, demanding action against the Jewish State.
These noises are already being heard, but they can be expected to increase as the world gets closer to that great final conflict that is predicted in the Bible. The Bible in the News keeps track of these developments, so join us again here next week www.bibleinthenews.com or www.biblemagazine.com when God willing we will consider more Bible related News.
