Quoting Albert Einstein: A people, a nation, is like a tree which is born with its own shadow. The higher the tree the longer its shadow. If you like you may call it not a shadow but fate. The shadow of the Jewish people is prophecy--vision of the end of the days. The shadow of the Romans was fame, domination of foreign lands. The shadow of the Russians is anti-Semitism.
Well nations certainly do have characters but this week we are not going looking at the Russians but the Germans.  Germany has been considered by many in Israel including the Prime Minister to be a strong friend of Israel.  In fact on a visit to Israel in 2008, German Chancellor Angela Merkel told the Knesset that Germany would “never abandon Israel,” and would “remain a loyal partner and friend.” At a press conference on April 7 with Netanyahu, she also said that Iran’s nuclear program is “a greater threat now than ever before,” and that everything must be done to prevent the Islamic Republic from acquiring nuclear weapons.  Certainly on the surface is seems very positive between the countries but we know from history and Bible prophecy that has not and will not always be the case.

Currently in fact, within the EU, Germany is the largest backer of the Palestinian Authority.  Not only that but they blame Israel squarely for the current issues and certainly not the Palestinians.  In a recent survey Germans were asked to respond to the statement that “Israel is conducting a war of extermination against the Palestinians,” 47.7 percent of the study’s participants agreed – the highest number in Western Europe.

The researchers also asked whether “Jews try to take advantage of having been victims during the Nazi era.”

Almost half the Germans questioned thought they did, again the highest number in Western Europe.  The number for Poland was 72.2%, and Hungary was at 68.1%. France at 32.3%, Portugal 52.2% and Italy 40.2%.

As the poll suggests, as far as Germany is concerned their love for Israel does not run that deep, in fact it came out today that while Germany was entertaining politicians from Israel they also were hosting and giving platform to politicians from Iran, Israel current loudest hater, and at the same time.  So while in one room they are listening to Israel and looking very concerned about Iran and need for more sanctions they are rubbing shoulders with those exact people in the next room.

"Members of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee (FADC) expressed outrage at     Germany on Thursday when they discovered they were visiting the Bundestag at the same time     as an official Iranian delegation.

The committee members, including Chairman MK Shaul Mofaz (Kadima), were surprised to find     that while they were visiting the German parliament's Defense Committee, representatives of     the Majilis, Iran's parliament, were speaking before the Bundestag's Foreign Affairs Committee.

"It cannot be that while Germany calls for tough sanctions against the Iranian regime, official     representatives of Germany undermine this policy by meeting with Majilis members," the MKs said in a statement. "They are sending the message that sanctions against Iran are passed with a nod and a wink.""

Well for those that read their Bibles this should not come a huge surprise.  When we look at the character of the Northern alliance of nations in Ezekiel 38 they come "against my people Israel."

In a book by Dr. John Thomas called Elpis Israel written in 1848 Thomas says the following:

"The press is prophesying smooth things, and persuading the world of the moderation of the Autocrat (He is speaking of the ruler of Russia), and of the good intentions of Austria and the pope!  It has told us several times that the extradition affair was composed and the peace between Russia and Turkey will not be interrupted; and as often it unsays what it had before affirmed.  But the reader need place no reliance upon newspaper speculations.  Their scribes know not what God has revealed, consequently their reasoning are vain, and sure to take a wrong direction.  As records of facts, the journals are invaluable; but if  a person permit his opinions to be formed by the views presented  in leading articles, and the letters of "our own correspondents," he will be continually mislead, and compelled to eat his own words evermore.  The Bible is the enlightener.  If men would not be carried about by every wind that blows, let them study this.  It will unfold to them the future, and make them wiser than the world.  The coming years will not be of peace..."

Well not much has changed other than it can even be hard to trust many of the news organizations of even facts today.

But for those in Israel or any of us who read the news and think of Germany, Russia or the Vatican as friends to Israel they are sadly mistaken.  History certainly screams otherwise and as Jeremiah 13:23 says

"Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil."

Einstein said that the shadow and even fate of Russia was that of anti-Semitism well I have to say is is not just Russia but that of much of Europe.

As far as Bible prophecy clearly tells us Israel should not be looking to many nations to the north for any support.  Ultimately their help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.  And when that help comes there is nothing and nobody that will get in the way.  To save his people in the past God sent 10 horrendous plagues wiping out the land of Egypt and then opened the Red Sea for a way of escape.

Look out world!
