What will come of the unrest in Iran?

Welcome to the Bible in the News, this is David Billington. Our eyes are still watching Iran this week as the election protests continue. More importantly we are watching Israel, the land God's eyes are always upon, as this Sunday afternoon at the Western Wall there is a large prayer rally planned.
Will the violence continue in Iran? Will it lead to a regime change? We cannot answer these questions. What is interesting is that Iran is the backer of many of the thorns in Israel's side; Hezbollah in Lebanon, the terrorist group Hamas which rules the Gaza strip and is also very active in Judea and Samaria and the Islamic Jihad also. Whatever transpires in Iran will have a major effect on Israel and its neighbours. According to Ezekiel chapter 38, Iran is with the Russian confederacy that invades Israel and is destroyed, so we can expect Iran's close ties with Russia to strengthen. This week a defiant Mahmoud Ahmadinejad blasted the US at a summit in Russia. Ezekiel 38 also predicts a time of peace, this another reason why we are interested in events in Iran.
Meanwhile the Israeli news source Arutz Sheva reported a special prayer rally to be held at the Western wall this Sunday afternoon:
"(IsraelNN.com) A mass prayer rally has been called for late Sunday afternoon at the Western Wall in light of the diplomatic and other dangers facing Israel...
"The prayers will be held on Erev Rosh Chodesh, the eve of the new month – in this case, the month of Tammuz – which is considered a “minor Yom Kippur” and particularly appropriate for communal prayers during troubled times.
"The organizers cite the mass-murderous intentions of Iran against Israel, Israel’s government plans to continue to destroy Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria, and world powers' desire to rid nearly all of these areas of Jewish presence altogether and build an Arab state in its place.
"Other participants wish to add other elements to the list of issues requiring prayers. The gay parades in Tel Aviv last week and Jerusalem this coming week are cited as examples of “abominations” that the Bible threatens could lead to the “vomiting out” of the Land’s Jewish residents."
For those that are interested the prayer rally can be viewed live on Sunday afternoon Israel time, on the Western Wall Camera at: http://www.aish.com/wallcam/
When we see these massive prayer rallies take place, it is truly exciting when we consider that not too long ago Israel was considered a socialist and non-religious nation - times are changing fast. It is even more exciting when we consider the prophecy of Isaiah 30, a prophecy "for a latter day". Isaiah 30:8 in the Young's Literal Translation reads: "Now, go in, write it on a tablet with them, And on a book engrave it, And it is for a latter day, for a witness unto the age". Isaiah 30 is truly a prophecy for the latter days, a prophecy depicting the time when the latter-day Assyrian will be beaten down. There is also a reference to the great earthquake in verse 25, that one great earthquake that ties many of these prophecies together. Listen carefully to verses 18 and 19:
"And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him. For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem: thou shalt weep no more:
And the answer to this cry, verse 20 and 21:
"And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers: And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left."
And the result of these teachers that God will sent to Israel, verse 29 and 30:
"Ye shall have a song, as in the night when a holy solemnity is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe to come into the mountain of the LORD, to the mighty One of Israel. And the LORD shall cause his glorious voice to be heard, and shall shew the lighting down of his arm, with the indignation of his anger, and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones."
The result is that Israel will take up the songs of Zion once more, in fact because of their newly elevated and redeemed condition, they will sing a new song - Psalm 98:
"O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory. The LORD hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen. He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. Sing unto the LORD with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm. With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King. Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together Before the LORD; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity."
I don't know about you, but I think this Sunday would be an excellent opportunity for all of the Bible in the News listeners to take a moment to say a special prayer for Zion, Psalm 122:6-9:
"Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces. For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee. Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good."
