Welcome to another edition of the Bible in the News with Paul Billington here to talk about it! This week we bring you a shorter version than is usual due to time constraints which are upon us for several reasons. One reason is the preparation that we are making to go to Israel this coming weekend. This means that next week, God willing, we will speak with you from Jerusalem.
Not that the Holy City is all that sanctified at the present time. In fact it is in many ways a disgrace, a centre for false religion, the seat of a corrupt government, and these days the scene of parades by immoral groups vaunting their wickedness with no shame.

Yes, today the Holy City is defiled. To paraphrase Daniel chapter 8:11-13, the daily sacrifice is taken away, the sanctuary is cast down, and the sanctuary is trodden under foot of the Gentiles.

The scene is one that saddens our hearts, and we can take up the many words of Jeremiah's Lamentations; for example:

"All that pass by clap their hands at thee; they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, Is this the city that men call The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth? All thine enemies have opened their mouth against thee: they hiss and gnash the teeth: they say, We have swallowed her up: certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it. The LORD hath done that which he had devised; he hath fulfilled his word that he had commanded in the days of old: he hath thrown down, and hath not pitied: and he hath caused thine enemy to rejoice over thee, he hath set up the horn of thine adversaries" (Lam. 2:15-17).

What we see in Jerusalem today can perhaps be summed up by the word "abomination." But you know, this scene is not new--it has all been seen before. Look at 1 Kings 14:22-24,

"And Judah did evil in the sight of the LORD, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done. For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree. And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD cast out before the children of Israel."

But times change. Another king arises and the wickedness is swept away--Look at 1 Kings 15:11, 12.

"And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, as did David his father. And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made."

And, what began with Asa was completed by Jehoshaphat--that is what we see from 1 Kings 22:45, 46.

Another clean-up took place under king Josiah, as we can learn from 2 Kings 23, especially vs. 5 to 7.

So even in Old Testament times the Holy City was defiled by Sodomites, just as it is today by so-called "Gay" marches. And as in times past, there are those who protest against the ugly filth that is paraded in defiance of the God of Heaven.

Well, these abominations will not last for ever. They were removed in the past by Asa, by Jehoshaphat and by Josiah--and they will most certainly be removed by a future King of Israel, not many days hence, for as Daniel chapter 8 goes on to say in verse 14, after 2,300 days have passed, "THEN shall the sanctuary be cleansed."

That is what we look for and wait for. On Monday November 20th we hope to speak the Truth in Jerusalem, at the Aragon YHA, Aragon Street. Several people are being invited to this presentation which has the title "THE DESTINY OF ISRAEL, Foretold by the Prophets." It is not our intention to convert the Jews of Israel, of course--that work belongs to the Redeemer (Isa. 59:20; Romans 11:26), but the Message of Scripture will be proclaimed perchance any will turn in to hear it. In the mean time we await the coming of the Holy One who will turn the nation back to the God of the fathers.

So next week God willing, we will talk with you from Jerusalem, of which Most Glorious things are spoken.
