Welcome to another edition of the Bible in the News. This is Paul Billington speaking with you from England where Mr. Cameron the new Prime Minister is having to count the cost of continued EU membership.
This is because the current economic crisis - and the direction in which it is going, may well have 'incalculable consequences' for everyone - and because the measures being proposed to deal with it are a direct threat to Britain as an independent sovereign power.
We are approaching a situation in which Britain must either surrender to a Catholic Europe dominated by Germany - or else re-confirm her existence as a sovereign state. So Mr. Cameron really must count the cost of continued EU membership. In the Daily Telegraph this past weekend, Bill Cash a conservative MP, said:
"These proposals must be rejected. If there is any attempt to use QMV not only must the UK vote against but measures would have to be taken by the Parliament to maintain the sovereignty of Britain." THAT is what is at stake!
And in the Sunday Telegraph we read: "The measures being proposed by the European Commission directly threaten our prosperity and our independence."
Gradually we see Germany asserting control over the European Union's economic affairs - a point made in The Daily Telegraph last Wednesday (June 16).
But people are not yet waking up to what is happening, though the warning has been sounded out over many years. As far back as 1990, a former cabinet minister (Nicholas Ridley) said, according to the paper "He believes Britain is threatened by economic domination by the Germans and warns that unless we act now we will end up as the poor man of Europe, driven into a Thirties-style recession."
Again in 1999 a popular paper asked the question "Is Germany trying to succeed where it failed in two wars?"
Well, here we are in 2010. One year after the publication of a papal encyclical entitled CHARITY IN TRUTH. As reported at the time,
"'There is an urgent need of a true world political authority' said Benedict - one that would 'manage the global economy.'"
The words of Revelation 13:17 and 18 come to mind.
"No man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six."
This is to be understood in a symbolic sense, but it does have a literal aspect to it as well, and as we see the Roman Church promoting the idea of a global authority to control the economy of Europe and the world, perhaps we may perceive the connection.
This economic control has been outlined in several statements by the Roman Church, such as one in Canada in 1977 "A Society to be Transformed," in the United Kingdom in 1996 "The
Common Good" and now just last year in the encyclical "CHARITY IN TRUTH." They ALL have in common a socialist/Marxist economic philosophy.
It is a philosophy that is bringing the European Union to economic disaster - just as communism did in Russia and eastern Europe in 1989/1990. Rome seeks to control the world's wealth - a situation that we see in the language of Revelation chapter 18. Look at the words of Revelation 18:16-18, which describe this system at the hour of judgement:
"Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls! For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!"
She has a history - as can be seen from verse 5:
"For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities."
So as we see these economic developments, let us bear in mind this Bible background. The time may well come when - as in the Middle Ages - "no man might buy or sell, save he that has the mark" (i.e. character) of the Beast.
Will Britain be able to resist the demands of Catholic Europe?
On May 21, 2010 the Daily Telegraph reported that Germany's Chancellor Merkel "insisted that all European countries must give up sovereignty to give the EU new economic powers to prevent another Greek and euro zone crisis."
As Revelation 17:13 puts it: "They must give their power and strength unto the beast."
Britain must either succumb or stand firm. It is a situation that could mean the separation of Britain from Europe.
So we continue to watch as we await the fulfillment of those prophecies which have taught us to expect the very situation that is now coming into focus.
May it bring the return of Christ and the establishment of his kingdom upon the ruins of Babylon the Great.
